In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, here’s a couple videos from Irish singer Samantha Mumba.

They are all good, but the Hathaway-Dunst one is….. special.

Party like it won’t be back for another four years!

It’s been a hell of a couple of weeks, let me tell you. And i’ve been to Los Angeles a couple of times, and then sick, and then trying to catch up at work. So….

So apologies.

I’ll write much more interesting stuff quite soon.

In the meantime:

1) Chris, if you’re reading this, thank you. Crying at my desk is not attractive. But thank you from the bottom of my heart.

2) On a completely unrelated topic, go see “In Bruges.” It stars Colin Farrell and is a much better sequel to “Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels” than anything you can think of (even though it’s not actually a sequel. It’s clever and original, and set in Bruges (no spoiler, that). It manages to be dark while not being oppressively so. And it contains three actors from the Harry Potter movies in (somewhat) marked departures from their usual roles.

So I made it deep in a “Razz” tournament last night. It was a sattelite into a larger tournament where first place was worth (at last count) $35k. What place did I finish in? 27th. Where did they start paying entries? 24th.

I should probably have folded my way to victory. Still, please explain, if you can, how the villain called me with ten high and all the fours and fives out.
[And Razz is seven-card stud where you try to make the worst hand. The "best" hand being A-2-3-4-5.]

PS I’m working on another poker math post, some Doctor Who-related stuff, another pome, some more “songs you shouldn’t play at a wedding,” and another list of “songs you shouldn’t play at a strip club.”

Here’s a fun read about Neil Gaiman’s take on Doctor Who, written before the series relaunched in 2005. You can find it here.

Elsewhere in the blog he throws his weight behind Paul Cornell to win the Hugo award for his Series Three Human Nature/Family of Blood two-parter. Which I, also, endorse.

So I was looking everywhere for something I had written waaay back in 1993 (and just thinking about that makes me feel very, very old), and I finally found it just the other day. And then, of course…. well, I’ll talk about that after the piece. Which you can see after the jump.

I’ll also add (at least) five more “Songs You Shouldn’t Play at a Wedding” thanks to suggestions from a few of you pretty soon.

So long ago in a galaxy far away I was with some friends in a bar/dance club at the top of a hotel. In the restaurant was a wedding party, featuring the saddest looking bride in the history of weddings. As we were noticing this, the most inappropriate song ever started playing (it’s the first song on this list). This started a long conversation about what would be the worst songs to play at a wedding. I’ve kept the list in my head and updated it over time, so, for your pleasure, here’s the list I have, so far. Please feel free to suggest some songs in the comments.

1. “Papa Don’t Preach” by Madonna
(I almost went with the Kelly Osbourne version) Note that “Material Girl” also would work.

2. “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails
I couldn’t find the version I wanted, which is a country-style version of it. So the mash up with the original Star Trek cast will have to do Language = NSFW.

3. “Foundations” by Kate Nash
The most recent song on the list.

I’m doing a test post to see if I can embed a youtube thingy here. Let’s try it, shall we?

Here’s a Madrigal-esque take on a Peter Gabriel classic.

This is a fun little opinion from the Seventh Circuit in Chicago, Illinois, upholding an award of several hundred million dollars from the makers of the Q-ray Ionized Bracelet. And it cites Wired Magazine.
